Engineering Data Coordinator (Contract) Full Time

Teknion is currently hiring an Engineering Data Coordinator at our Fileco facility.   The Engineering Data Coordinator is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of Bills of Material (BOM) using BAAN system in a manner consistent with Fileco’s practices and procedures.

Responsibilities: 

1. The Engineering Data Coordinator is responsible for providing reliable data that will serve as a tool/reference for a smooth flow of work among the Engineering team and other departments by ensuring the accuracy of BOM

•  Creates part numbers based on drawings.
•  Updates/Changes BOM in accordance with system (BAAN) requirements after the ECN has been accepted and prior to the effective dates.
• Checks “where-used” and validates every part number to be marked “obsolete”
• Sets part numbers to manual, changes item group, and puts signal code on Obsolete part numbers as per ECN
• Creates cut-to-size (CTS) materials as needed by Purchasing. He/she also verifies dimensions based on drawings/CNC programmers
• Adds newly approved colour into BAAN and attach to generic parts.
• Adjusts/updates BOM, phantom, description, selection, and signal codes as requested by other departments.

2. The incumbent is responsible for participating in the launching of new products by developing product configuration and structure using BAAN

• Reviews and understands product configuration through PPG
• Collaborates with the product designers to have a clear understanding of the new product.
• Prepares product mapping including features and options based on PPG
• Prepares product nomenclature for customized finished goods
• Prepares BOM mapping with top kits and constraints
• Creates all part numbers (purchased, manufactured, and generic parts)
• Attaches BOM generic item data and product features to finished good code
• Creates BOM structure and constraint
• Tests all product configurations and combinations
• Participates in training sessions to introduce newly released product

3. The incumbent is accountable for assisting in the successful implementation of Engineering Change Notice (ECN) by entering detailed BOM to reflect product specifications and cost/process improvements as specified on the ECN.

• Helps coordinate the implementation intent of every ECN
• Creates part numbers based on drawings provided by product designer
• Reviews and ensures that all fields in the item master are properly set up
• Provides a list of new parts to Process Engineer for routings and to Designer for ECN documentation
• Identifies the raw materials for hard tooling and shearing operations and update system, calculates the net quantity for coils
• Runs the session to calculate each new manufactured item (manual)
• Updates the low level code for each part number (manual)
• Calculates the net quantity of powder for generic parts (-G) (manual)
•  Assigns signal code for every created part number. After ECN is released, manually removes signal code of each part number
• Regenerates all existing sales orders in the system to capture new part numbers or replace obsolete parts as specified in ECNs

4. The incumbent is responsible for satisfying customer requests by creating BOM for special products and service orders in a timely manner.

• Assists Tekcare personnel in identifying correct parts to replace claims.
• Creates service part numbers (internal)
• Creates BOM for special orders based on PR# (e.g. S123456)
• Checks customized BOMs after customer service has entered the special and service orders
• Randomly checks customized BOMs for wood/glass orders
• Attending daily/weekly Production meetings

The incumbent is responsible for performing other duties as assigned by his/her immediate supervisor and/or Senior Management. (e.g. performs Quick Fix projects, clears out test projects by manually deleting upper and lower bills in customized BOM, cleans up signal codes and item groups)

Qualifications: 

• College or University degree in Engineering or equivalent education, training, and work experience
• Working knowledge of general manufacturing practices and processes, engineering information systems, and project management skills
• Basic computer knowledge and skills (Word, Excel, BAAN)
• Working understanding of ISO 9001, ISO 14001
• Knowledge of relational databases, supported by a programming background, will be considered an asset
• High degree of interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
• Flexibility to deal with employees at all levels

The expected base salary range for this existing position is $49,330 – $61,675. Final base salary offers will reflect an assessment of the selected candidate’s skills, demonstrated competencies, and adherence to our internal pay equity framework.
