POSITION OVERVIEW:

Canadians currently face an unsettling level of financial uncertainty, as a trade war drives inflation, market tumult and concerns about the job market. Readers have never been hungrier for information that helps them make the right decisions about their finances – and The Globe and Mail is seeking an investment reporter to offer authoritative advice to guide Canadians through this critical moment.

This individual will cover a wide range of investing topics, from portfolio strategy to new financial products. The successful candidate will be able to demystify complex financial topics, including the financial markets, bonds, pensions, and other government benefits. The reporter will be particularly focused on helping readers understand the affect their investing decisions have on their broader personal finances.

Always putting our readers first, this reporter’s work will push beyond well-worn advice to offer new insights that are accessible to Canadians at every life stage. Their work will guide readers on how they can best invest their TFSAs, RRSPs and other cornerstones of long-term financial planning.

The successful candidate will be able to able to write for a variety of platforms and formats, with a particular emphasis on newsletters and accessible, authoritative writing.

Drawing on strong collaboration skills, the investment reporter will work with colleagues across The Globe’s investing team and Report on Business to interpret how broader financial news will affect our readers’ investments and personal finances. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Pitch and write at least two articles per week on a variety of investing topics 
• Break news and offer exclusive insights that distinguish our coverage
• Work with colleagues across the department and wider newsroom to brainstorm ideas as well as the best way to tell them
• Moderate panels and host Globe subscriber events
• Contribute to larger editorial projects, newsletters and podcasts

QUALIFICATIONS:

• At least 5 years experience writing on investing, personal finance or a related topic
• Strong understanding or a keen willingness to learn about markets, investing and personal finance topics
• Ability to write for a broad audience on complex financial issues 
• Comfortable working in a variety of formats, including live blogs, newsletters, video and audio

VACCINATION POLICY:
